About

Meet Shruti

​Shruti is a Democrat with progressive values and has lived in Montgomery County, Maryland for nearly 23 years. She is driven by making a difference, a passionate community advocate and organizer with a track record of public service and effective leadership. A mother of two children who have attended Montgomery County Public Schools, Shruti has served her community through leadership of various non-profit, community and political organizations. Her work has centered around equity and social justice and helped shape policy at the County, State and Federal level.

Shruti is a member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central committee (MCDCC) and was appointed in February 2021 to fill a vacancy for the D18 seat, while she was already serving as the Co-Chair of the Precinct Organization for MCDCC (the largest in Maryland with 257+ precincts). In that role, she has been working with precinct leaders, area coordinators, Democrats across the County and the Maryland Democratic Party to organize various Get Out The Vote activities; helped develop the strategic plan for the 2020 and 2022 election, worked with colleagues to organize and mobilize over 400 volunteers for the poll watching program to have a strong Democratic presence at the polling sites and for voter protection.

Shruti serves on the D18 Democratic Caucus board as the Chair Emeritus after completing two-year terms each as Chair and Vice Chair of the Caucus during which time she organized forums and events to engage D18 Democrats on various issues, and mobilized Democrats from our diverse community for various GOTV activities. In the summer of 2018 and 2021, Shruti organized and participated in the summer listening tour for the Montgomery County Democratic Party, to connect with residents and learn about the issues that are important to our community.

Shruti’s breadth of experience with the Maryland Democratic Party includes serving as an alternate Delegate for MCDCC, Member of the AAPI Diversity Leadership Council, Field and Data Committee, Affirmative Action Committee that created the 2020 DNC Delegate Selection Plan and as Member of the Environment and climate committee.

Shruti’s work in the community expands through her leadership and service with various non-profit and community organizations, County Commissions and boards.

Shruti is running for the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) to continue to work on strengthening the Democratic Party’s efforts on voter outreach, voter registration and voter engagement, increase diverse participation and mobilize voters to get Democrats elected up and down the ballot.

While Shruti is not in a contested race, it is important to her that she connects with the Democrats in Dist. 18 and Montgomery County so she can work with everyone.

MCDCC

​The Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (or MCDCC) is the governing body of the local Democratic Party in Maryland's largest and most diverse county.

There are 24 Committee members, comprised of two Members from each legislative district across the County and in addition, 8 At-Large Members that are elected countywide.

The MCDCC serves five main functions:

  • Operating as the Montgomery County Democratic Party
  • Getting out the vote across Montgomery County to elect Democrats across Montgomery County and Maryland
  • Building the precinct organization by appointing precinct leaders as conduits of the Democratic Party in each voting precinct
  • Connecting Democratic voters and candidates so voters can make more informed choices at the polls
  • Nominating people to the state legislature when there's a vacancy
